Background
Carers Federation Ltd is a national charity and company limited by guarantee established in 1992 to empower and support unpaid carers, the people for whom they care for and the wider community. The charity is managed by a Board of Trustees elected by our membership.
Carers Federation has successfully been awarded a 3-year contract by Gateshead Council and North East and Cumbria ICB. The service is a new dynamic service providing support to all age caregivers living in Gateshead. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to join Carers Federation, Caregivers Connected team and shape the service into a bespoke and engaging service for all Caregivers in Gateshead.
Job Role
Working closely with the Service Manager you will focus on supporting the team of Triage Assessment workers, Administrators, and volunteers in their day-to-day roles, focussing on efficiency in the delivery of all aspects of the service, ensuring all people, processes and systems are working together to drive operational standards and quality in the delivery of support to carers. You will also be responsible for supporting the Volunteer Co-ordinator with recruiting and managing volunteers. You will also be the focal point of our planned engagement with BAME communities. Notably, duties will include;
- Manage office resources to ensure they are delivered to a consistently high standard to achieve service aims and objectives, including increasing and identifying unpaid carers.
- Facilitate team meetings on a regular basis.
- Monitor teams’ performance against strategic priorities and targets and liaise with Service Manager to implement corrective actions.
- Accountable for office Health and Safety compliance including CHAS, responsible for ensuring policies are adhered to within the team and reporting health and safety issues and concerns.
- Manage office compliance of all Company and operational policies and procedures in order to ensure effective service delivery.
- Contribute to financial planning of service.
- Control day to day costs within appropriate policies and ensure any significant expenditure is approved by Service Manager before any spend is actioned or committed to.
- Recruit, supervise, and coach the Triage, Admin workers, Marketing and Comms alongside other team leaders within the service.
- Identify staff training and development needs, e.g. in knowledge or through errors regarding policies and procedures; make timely and decisive actions and advise Service Manager.
- Responsibility for developing and maintaining external relationships of Caregivers Connected Gateshead Service across local area and further if required; ensure appropriate staff are engaged with liaison activity at the appropriate level.
- Undertake any other duties as required, which are commensurate with the grading of the post.
Requirements
Proven experience in a team leader role with the ability to clearly set direction and manage teams spread across large geographic areas.
- Ability to build strong relationships and team ethos.
- Experience of recruiting, co-ordinating and working with volunteers.
- Experience of performance management.
- Good interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Good and problem-solving skills with a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent team player able to create an confident culture and working environment that empowers others.
- Previous experience of the Health and Social Care environment.
