Our Offer to Young Adult Carers

We provide a free service to anyone aged 18 – 25 who provides unpaid care for someone living in Gateshead. Our offer to young adult carers includes;

Help, advice and support from our team

Being a young adult carer can be stressful and with so many different systems to keep track of and navigate, it can feel overwhelming at times. Our team are here to give help, advice and support to young adult carers around their current situation and wellbeing while connecting you with local support services and the latest relevant opportunities.

Drop-in Sessions for Young Adult Carers

Need a space to talk, have a laugh and take a break from caring? We run a variety of drop-in sessions specifically for young adult carer around Gateshead. These can include casual pizza nights, craft and chat sessions and activity sessions.

Young Carer Wellbeing Fund

As part of our support offer to young adult carers, we have a grant which carers under 25 years old can access to receive money towards improving their wellbeing and taking a short break from their caring role. Young adult carers have used the Wellbeing Fund to get a laptop, gym membership, cinema passes and cookery classes.

Short Hotel Breaks around the UK

We’ve partnered with national charity Carefree to offer caregivers aged 18 and older short breaks in hotels across the UK for a heavily reduced fee of £38 total which all goes towards funding the charity. Currently, caregivers can access a hotel break twice per year, once from 5th January – 30th June, and again from 1st July – 31st December.

Register as a Young Adult Carer

By definition, if you regularly look after anyone who because of illness, disability or long-term condition cannot manage without help then you are recognised in law as caregiver. We recognise that having an unpaid caring role brings with it a lot of challenges and therefore we’re here to support all caregivers who look after a resident of Gateshead.

In order to offer the best tailored support that we can, we define people aged between 18 and 25 with an unpaid caring role as Young Adult Carers. If you believe that you are a Young Adult Carer, consider registering with us. By doing so, you can have peace of mind that there is always someone in your corner to turn to for support, advice and to find out about the latest opportunities for young adult carers.
